What is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a long-term skin condition that can also affect the nails and joints. It tends to flare up from time to time. Psoriasis causes inflammation and an increased production of skin cells. Skin cells replenish in 3-7 days rather than every 3-4 weeks, which results in the characteristic plaques that are frequently visible on the knees, elbows, scalp, and lower back (although they can appear anywhere on the body).
What are the symptoms of Psoriasis?
The signs and symptoms can vary depending on the type of psoriasis you have. The most common symptoms of psoriasis include:
- Rashes or patches of red inflamed skin
- Loose silver coloured plaques
- Itchy painful skin that can crack or bleed
- Discolouration and pitting of fingernails and toenails
- Scaly plaques on scalp

What causes Psoriasis?
The direct cause of psoriasis is still unknown, it is believed to be caused by a combination of genes and environmental factors. Every person with this condition has their own triggers. However, some medical practitioners believe that prolonged stress response is the leading causative factor to the development of psoriasis.
How can Psoriasis be treated?
There’s no cure for psoriasis, but a range of treatments can improve symptoms and the appearance of skin patches. Moisturisers are essential for anyone with psoriasis, no matter what other treatments they use. Topical steroids are other commonly used psoriasis treatments. They work by reducing inflammation. Light therapy (phototherapy) is another type of treatment that can be used.
How can House of Middleton treat Psoriasis?
At House of Middleton we provide a number of treatments that can help you reduce the stresses that lead to flare ups and to manage the symptoms of psoriasis.

Dermalux Tri-Wave MD
The Tri-Wave MD is Medically CE certified for Acne, Wound Healing, Psoriasis and Pain (Musculoskeletal). Depending on the severity of the skin condition, visible improvement may be seen following at least 4 to 6 Dermalux treatments. Treatment taken in close succession is strongly recommended, up to 4 sessions per week.

Clearlight Infrared Sauna
Infrared saunas can help fight psoriasis outbreaks by stimulating the shedding of overgrown skin, decreasing systematic inflammation and by reducing overall stress.

Zerobody Dry Floatation
A powerful and effective kind of relaxation therapy is floatation. During floatation the nervous system is freed from the need to continuously regulate body temperature and gravitational adjustment and begins to release endorphins. The muscles relax and blood circulation improves, thus reducing stress.
